In order to heal ourselves and our relationships, we must enter into the darkness of our unconscious and develop an honorable, respectful and loving relationship with the dark goddess in our midst.-Demetra George, Mysteries of the Dark Moon, Pg.114
I love the Dark Moon, the Dark Goddess, all things deep and dark. This is such an ideal day to dive inward. The New Moon is especially magical and potent with the Grand Cross spanning the four mutable signs: Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces around the 14 degree mark in Tropical. This creates what Jung would call the Quarternity. A special quad of the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Psychologically it's certainly pulling us apart at the mutable seams and stretching us in all four polarities as far as our psyche's are flexible. You can feel the extreme creativity involved in such an influence as well as a potential to feel "all over the map" and totally spaced out and scattered if you're not centered. Look to where these four mutable signs fall in your horoscope to see where you are getting hit with maximum growth/magic/manifestation potential now.
The quaternity is an archetype of almost universal occurrence. It forms the logical basis for any whole judgement. Id one wishes to pass such a judgement, it must have this fourfold aspect. For instance, if you want to describe the horizon as a whole, you name the four quarters of heaven…There are always four elements, four prime qualities, four colours, four castes, four ways of spiritual development etc. So, too, there are four aspects of psychological orientation… In order to orient ourselves, we must have a function which ascertains that something is there (sensation); a second function which establishes what it is (thinking); a third function which states whether it suits us or not, whether we wish to accept it or not (feeling), and a fourth function which indicates where it came from and where it is going (intuition). When this has been done, there is nothing more to say… The ideal completeness is the circle or sphere, but its natural minimal division is a quaternity.” (Psychology and Religion West and East, Collected Works, Vol. 11, p. 167.)
Before the new cycle begins later tonight, we're at a significant inner crossroads of "Choice." Gemini rules choice and reconciling the opposites. Here we have four to reconcile and all the mutable, wandering energies are involved.
My favorite Dark Moon/Crossroads Goddess is Hekate. She resides in some of the deepest layers of our unconscious, and in many ways acts as a guardian over the unconscious and thus our dreams at night. We could say volumes about her amazing powers but that's for a future post. In terms of dream work under the Dark Moon, she is a wonderful reminder of how the feminine dwells in the deeps, with their beloved dog, in caves, temples, and highways at night. It's so interesting because I could not stop dancing to Mazzy Star's "Ghost on a Highway" today either which did not even occur to me to have the Hekate connection until this very moment when I quoted Demetra again. The energies around this particular Dark Moon, at least the way I've experienced them and the muses, seem to adore music! We can see this in the astrology. Neptune which rules dreams and music Just as I wrote that, I heard the fog horns outside. Dark Moons help us conned to the sacred feminine which prefers a slow, grounded, sensual pace. Rushing around frantically is not Dark Moon stuff. Don't bore or piss off the Goddess! Use this day to quiet the mind and reconnect with your body, dreams, journal and psyche in the most reverential and sacred manner possible.
