New Moon in Libra
Reset and Rebalance on the Razor’s Edge
“Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.”
― Thomas à Kempis
Balance is definitely an art. In spirituality, this fragile tightrope between the realms of consciousness and shadow is called “The Razor’s Edge.” The archetype of Libra is often depicted with the sword of discernment and clarity. We are in the realm of cardinal air, making important social and business decisions that require careful deliberation. Add to this the current almighty Mercury Retrograde shadow also in Libra, and you see why we're totally preoccupied with themes of relationship, balance, karma, beauty and justice. We're also maddeningly indecisive and confused. Libra and  indecisiveness go hand in hand because we feel the karmic load associated with our choices. The weight of  doing or choosing the “right” thing sends our inner "Scales" into a dizzying sea-saw ride. Libra is connected with the archetypal image of Justice and Karma (The 11th Trump Card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot). The New Moon in Libra is our annual reset to see where we’ve fallen on the vast spectrum of life’s infinite dance of opposites. The dance between the darkness and the light and our need to find harmony between these poles began on the Equinox on the 22nd. Now with this New Moon, we feel the call to seed our intentions for the next six months around the Libra area of our horoscope. Where do we wish to create more beauty and balance? Who and what would we like to partner with? How do we partner with ourselves? How do we partner with others? How do we experience our Aries "me, me, me" id selves in partnership?
We associate Libra time with relationships, contracts and marriage. On the darker shadow side, there can be a narcissistic theme that runs throughout the Aries-Libra relationship polarity. Often the parts of us that did not feel cherished and seen as children have a pretty little way of showing up in our adult lives screaming for extra special attention, approval or popularity. Social media clearly feeds on our developmental traumas with the architecture of "Like" buttons ruling our stats.  The narcissistic shadow of the Libra-Aries spectrum constellates that  inner dark queen in all of us that wants to be told “yes, you darling are the fairest of them all!” What happens when relationship reflections reveal bits of a vain or selfish shadow lurking behind the accommodating and peaceful means we’ve used to keep and maintain our connections and attachments? Issues around codependency and love addiction have a way of rearing their needy heads during this time, as do triangular patterns in our relationships. Themes of jealousy, competition or some kind of unconscious re-enactment of pitting one parent against the other with friends or lovers could resurface in our current triangles. In our quest to have the “other” play the perfect, flattering mirror, do we give away our power to partners, admirers and other external barometers and applause meters in our life? Where have we lost parts of ourselves in our need to be liked, supported, or connected?

We’ve been in serious work mode for the past several weeks, so this New Moon reminds us to reset our scales by focusing on beauty. As we take a graceful reset, we’re more aware of the areas of our life and our relationships that have fallen out of balance. Libra is the sign ruling harmony, equilibrium and partnering. With the North Node still in the sign of coupling, we may be a bit obsessed with our current relationship status under this lunation. Life just feels better when we’ve got a sweet companion to get into trouble with while the Libra cycle is under way. We could all use a little sidekick, even if it’s just a furry one. If your mind has been in the neurotic Virgo frenzy of worrying and analyzing, Libra reminds you to pause and regain some lovely composure. Is it worth all the stress and imbalance? Venus, the goddess of love and beauty is the ruler of this New Moon reminding us of the power of inner peace as a means to share greater love with everyone we come into relationship with on a daily basis. We’re more likely to adapt, adjust and accommodate for the sake of the other, for the sake of keeping the flow. This doesn’t have to be a weakness. It’s about smoothing out the edges and making sure there is beauty behind each and every thought, word and action. Equilibrium and equipoise make life all the more lovely.
